SBS enhances newsroom with Techtel and Associated Press

Sydney, Australia – 06 August 2025Techtel, a leading independent broadcast technology specialist, has successfully delivered an upgrade of the newsroom system for the Special Broadcasting Service (SBS), streamlining editorial and production workflows across its Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne newsrooms.

The project replaced the incumbent platform at SBS with the latest version of AP’s ENPS – the world’s most widely used and trusted newsroom editorial system.

The new ENPS platform officially went live across SBS on 1 July 2025, supporting the production of flagship bulletins such as SBS World News, NITV News, and SBS Late News. The system delivers state-of-the-artreliability, flexibility, and seamless integration with SBS’s broader production ecosystem, as well as capability for up to 140 concurrent users.

“This was a significant and technically complex upgrade, and we’re incredibly proud of the outcome,” said Matt Feeney, Director of Projects, Techtel. “The implementation of the newest ENPS version has not only upgraded SBS’s editorial capabilities but also enabled a highly responsive, fully integrated environment across multiple newsrooms. The transition was seamless, with no issues to air, and the SBS team has adapted quickly and enthusiastically..”

Techtel provided complete end-to-end delivery and implementation support, including workflow design; system integration with all connected platforms (such as Studio Automation, Dalet Galaxy MAM, Viz graphics and prompters); staff training; API integration; rigorous testing; and dedicated Hypercare support.

The newly deployed ENPS platform delivers the flexibility, speed and reliability required by journalists and production teams to produce and deliver trusted news to Australian audiences across broadcast and digital platforms. Techtel’s expert management and close collaboration with SBS ensured a smooth and timely transition, with zero disruption to on-air operations.

The newly deployed ENPS version offers several powerful new features, including:

  • Customisable rundown colour-coding (a highly anticipated feature now in full use at SBS)

  • Dark mode

  • Streamlined story editing with intuitive hotkeys

  • Updated help guides and instructional videos

  • Improved performance and cloud licensing

With a 28-year heritage and a reputation for robust global support, ENPS empowers newsroom teams to work more intuitively and collaboratively across platforms and locations.

Keisuke Kayaba, Regional Sales Manager, AP Workflow Solutions said “We’re proud to see SBS among the first broadcasters globally to adopt the latest version of ENPS. Built by journalists for journalists, this release delivers enhanced performance and powerful new features that improve editorial workflow and support seamless collaboration. Working alongside Techtel and SBS on this implementation has been a great example of industry partnership driving innovation in modern newsrooms.”
