Shining a Spotlight on Storytelling: Marcus Van Altena Joins Techtel as Business Development Manager

Techtel is happy to welcome Marcus Van Altena to our growing team, stepping into the role of Business Development Manager – Live Production.

With a background that blends creativity, media production, and operations management, Marcus brings a unique perspective to broadcast technology sales. After graduating with a Bachelor of Film Production, Marcus began his career behind the camera as a Digital Producer, producing weddings, music videos, and branded content through his own company.

He went on to join Nine News as a Media Exchange Operator, where he managed ingest, recording, and scheduling of live news footage — gaining firsthand insight into the fast-paced world of news broadcast. Marcus’s storytelling skills then shone through his award-winning documentary Hear Me Out, which he wrote, directed, and edited. The film won four international film festival awards and streamed on SBS On Demand for two years.

Alongside his media experience, Marcus also honed strong business and leadership skills as a Manager at the Golden Barley Hotel, where he oversaw daily operations.

Now bringing together his technical, creative, and managerial expertise, Marcus says:
