The Weather Channel boasts Australia’s first 3D studio

Orad's virtual set with Telemetrics camera robotics system at The Weather Channel.

SYDNEY, Australia, 21st October 2008 - XYZnetworks have recently invested in a complete studio upgrade for The Weather Channel, coinciding with their move from North Sydney to a new studio at the Foxtel Broadcasting Centre in North Ryde. Local distributor Techtel provided the crucial virtual set element from Orad Hi-Tech Systems, including the Orad ProSet virtual set with HDVG platform. Also provided by Techtel as part of the facility rebuild was a Ross Video Synergy 2 switcher, two NVision video routers, a 64x64 plus a 32x32, and the Etere Master automation system. Etere automation now controls The Weather Channel and Country Music Channel.

“Our decision to work with Techtel on the installation came down to the seamless integration between key equipment needed for the project” said Steve Pyle, Chief Engineer XYZnetworks. “Techtel’s assistance with the installation as well as on-site operational and technical training left us confident that we’d made the right choice for the upgrade”. The Orad ProSet virtual set facilitates pattern recognition with the Telemetrics camera robotics system.

The Orad 3Designer Advance authoring software generates real-time 3D graphics templates and animations. As the only weather presentation in Australia with Orad’s software, The Weather Channel is able to manipulate maps and graphics for three dimensional movement, giving presenters the ability to engage with the graphics on a far greater level than previously seen.

On-air since August this year, the new-look The Weather Channel and XYZnetworks will continue to work closely with Techtel to ensure the channel retains its reputation for “state-of-the-art” programming.
